Matthew Hardie

Matt Hardie is a multi-award winning Australian Filmmaker. Originally from Western Australia, Matt completed a Bachelor in Communication and Cultural Studies at Curtin University, majoring in both film and performance studies before moving to Sydney to train as an actor at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). In 2016 Matt completed a Graduate Certificate in Screenwriting at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).

In 2013, Matt wrote, directed and starred in his first short film 'Let It Rain'. It was selected as one of 16 finalists in the 2013 Tropfest Film Festival and won the DSLR award. 'Let It Rain' also won 1st place at the Laugh Out Loud Film Festival screened at cinemas across the USA. Matt followed this up with 'Bamboozled', which took out 1st place at the next Tropfest Film Festival. Matt and his costar also won the award for Best Actor.


In 2014 Matt directed the short sketch 'One Connection' for ABC iView’s 'Fresh Blood', which was then selected to be screened on 'The Best Of Fresh Blood' on ABC1. In 2015 Matt collaborated with Paige Gardiner to write, produce and direct the web series 'How To Have a Successful Marriage'.

After taking a break from directing to write a feature film screenplay at AFTRS, Matt wrote, directed and produced a spec TVC called 'Dad Joke' in 2018. 'Dad Joke' was picked up by M&C Saatchi and used as part of an online fathers day campaign for BIG W.
